A decision on the status of Brayden Point for the Olympic does not sound imminent.
Tampa Bay Lightning and Canada coach Jon Cooper said Thursday there still is time before Hockey Canada has to make a call on the injured forward, per Lightning reporter Benjamin Pierce. He said there was no further update on Point.
Earlier this week, Cooper said Point is week-to-week while adding his season is not over.
Point exited Monday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers after sustaining a lower-body injury while scoring a goal in the second period.
The 29-year-old has had a solid year for the Bolts, tallying 11 goals and 19 assists in 36 games. Point missed some time in November with an undisclosed injury.
The Calgary native was named to Team Canada's roster for the Olympic Winter Games on Dec. 31. The Canadian team is expected to fly to Italy on Feb. 7 and play its first game on Feb. 12.
Meanwhile, Cooper said Lightning star defenceman Victor Hedman could skate soon. He was placed on IR on Dec. 11 and has played just 18 games this season.
